A meeting of WMA Fl 2 was held March 12, 2010 at Stacey's. President Lucille Gunion called the meeting to order at 12:20. All officers were present. There were 7 members present. After the Pledge of Allegiance there was a moment of silent prayer.Maxine Wehry introduced our speaker Bob Cannon, Service Officer for the Marine Corps League and VAVS for the state.
The topic of his speech was the Wounded Warriors. We were informed about the organization and what they do for the soldiers and dependents. We were invited to attend their installation of officers April 11th. Forty warriors came from all over the country to attend the Super Bowl. When traveling in a group there is a staff that travels with them, doctors, nurse, etc. Members of all the services receive assistance as needed. The Marines have their own group, Semper Fi. One of the biggest problems with the returning service people is suicides.
Treasurer report was given by Sylvia Morgan.
The minutes were read by Secretary Marilyn Goler. Speedy made a motion to accept the minutes as amended and seconded by Maxine Wehry. motion was carried.VAVS report was given by Maxine. There will be a recognition dinner and Maxine will be attending. Maxine asked for somebody to volunteer to be her deputy. The PCVC report was given by Lucille. They are trying to obtain a facility in Clearwater to be used as transition housing and hoping to have it ready by the fall. Karen Kelley mentioned a Woman Veteran is also entitled to a military funeral. Speedy gave the report of the nominating committee. Lucille Gunion, President - Vice President , Alice Carroll -Secretary, Marilyn Goler - Treasurer, Sylvia Morgan - Chaplain, Doris Plummer. Lucille appointed Karen assistant treasurer. Lucille asked for someone to volunteer to be the historian. Kathy Pothoff volunteered. Maxine and Kathy will get together so Maxine can tell Kathy what the requirements are. The call list will be divided in half between Maxine and Speedy. Jackie Goldberg suggested to ask members if they wanted to continue receiving calls. New Business National received a check for close to a million dollars for the scholarship fund.
Open Forum Maxine passed around two cards to be signed by members for Doris and Marie. Installation of officers will be held at the next meeting which will be May 8. Lucille has a list of 30 Woman Marines she will contact for membership. The meeting was adjourned at 1:30.
