January 16,
2010 the FL-2 Chapter of WMA met at Stacey's Restaurant.
Eight members were present and one guest, the granddaughter of our newest member
Alice Carroll. All officers except Marilyn Goler were
present.
Doris Plummer, Chaplain opened the meeting with prayer followed by the
Pledge of Allegiance.
In the absence of Secretary Marilyn Goler the minutes of the last
meeting were read by Maxine Wehry Vice Pres. Sylvia made a motion and
Speedy seconded it that the minutes be accepted as amended. Motion carried.
Treasurer's report was given by Sylvia Morgan. Motion made by Maxine and
seconded by Speedy to accept the report.
Motion carried.
Maxine VAVS Rep. had no news to report as the next meeting of VAVS will be Jan.
27, 2010.
Lucille reported that the PCVLC has dissolved and reorganized as
Pinellas County Veteran's Organization. We are permitted to have 4
members represent our organization. Contact Lucille if interested.
They meet every third Sat. of the month.
Karen Kelly reported that National dues will be $40 for 2 years starting in
June. Until then it will be $25. She also reported we have a new
National Treasurer, Betty Mosley Brown. She then distributed a few free black
WMA logo sweaters that a friend had sent her(A glitch in an order),so that the
welcoming committee will wear them at our 67th Birthday Anniversary Celebration
on Feb. 13, 2010. Lucille, Sylvia, Speedy, and Maxine will be staying at
the hotel
Friday and Saturday nights to be on hand to
welcome those out of town visitors and bid farewell to those who will be leaving
on Sunday.
Lucille sent out 40 letters on Jan 12, 2010 to Marines in our area who are not
members, inviting them to join our chapter and attend the Anniversary
luncheon. Letters will also be sent to our current members asking them to the
luncheon. On Saturday evening we will
have a free bus to and from The Hard Rock Casino.
Since we will need 40 people to secure the bus, bring a friend or two if they
are interested. JRROTC from Clearwater High will be our guests at the
luncheon and perform their rifle drill.
Doris Plummer, Chaplain will give the Invocation and
Benediction. Karen Kelly will cut the cake. Sylvia
Morgan will be in charge of Name Tags and Monies. Anyone wishing to donate
a
door prize may do so.
New business turns to the annual Charity Accounts distribution. Sylvia reported
that four checks had not been cashed so they were redeposited back into our
account. Those organizations PCVLC and Stepping Stones
have been removed from our list of charities as has VAVS Golden Age Games. The
VA Hospice Unit was reduced to $200 from $250.00. The Ronald MacDonald
house in ST. Petersburg has been added. Maxine is to check on who is
involved in The Wounded Warriors and if they will be considered, also.
Meeting was adjourned with prayer by Doris Plummer, Chaplain at 1:40 PM.
